Brewer Turbine
Opportunity Summary
There are several main types of turbines that are utilized in most commercial and industrial applications to convert raw engery sources into mechanical power:
1. Gas turbines are used in commercial jet airplanes, helicopters, small power plants.
2. Steam turbines are used by most power plants and utilize coal, natural gas, oil or a nuclear reactor to create steam.
3. Water turbines are utilized in hydroelectric dams that use water to generate power.
Since a turbine usually obtains highest efficiency at high rotational speed, the blades and rotor require engineering precision machining and must be carefully balanced. Due to the extremely high temperatures, pressures and spin rates inside the engine, blades may expand and warp when heated and are subject to chemical and mechanical damage. Thus these existing turbines require high maintenance costs and replacement of parts.
Brewer Turbine
The Brewer Turbine is a turbine that is inexpensive to manufacture and maintain, and is able to extract energy from a variety of moving fluids over a wide range of temperature, pressure, viscosity, and chemical conditions without suffering significant damage.
It combines the functions of a turbine housing and rotor to provide a highly simplified means to convert energy within a fluid into rotational energy.
The Brewer Turbine has few moving parts, a high power-to-weight ration, and can be utilized in applications including generators, farm equipment, air tools, industrial steam power plants and hydroelectric plants. It can also be used in cars and home power systems.
Gas or liquid-phase fluids having a wide range of temperatures and pressures may be utilized as energy sources with few or no modifications to the turbine.
The Brewer Turbine may be easily fabricated from metal, plastic, ceramics, glass, and other known materials to accomodate corrosive or superheated fluids. Acceptable balance may be achieved simply by welding, gluing, or other attaching balance weights. Precision manufacturing is not necessary to achieve efficiency or reliability.
Features and benefits include:
it can be made out of a variety of materials
it can utilize a variety of fluids as energy sources
it is highly efficient
