Opportunity Summary

Leading book publisher Appletree Press is seeking an IT Graduate or equivalent to help develop an innovative personalised book production engine. The two year fixed term post is funded by InterTradeIreland's FUSION Programme in association with Athlone Institute of Technology. The job carries an excellent salary, fast-track career development and specialised training. It also offers the opportunity to work in a creative environment. The job is based in Appletree's Belfast offices, just opposite the Gasworks, near the junction of Ormeau Road with Ormeau Avenue.

The project is of 24 months duration and offers an ideal opportunity for the Graduate to develop managerial skills in Project Management, Presentation Skills and Team Working

The Graduate will develop technical skills including :

· Software system architecture of the proposed system
· Specific and substantial experience in the following areas:
o Enterprise level distributed system design
o Data distribution strategies over underlying unreliable communication channels
o XML based technologies including in particular Personalised Page Markup Language (PPML)
· Substantial experience in the test and verification of enterprise scale communications systems
· Experience in documentation and deployment of commercial software systems

The Graduate will develop an understanding of the commercial reality of business management. At the end of the project there is an excellent opportunity for permanent employment with the Company.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Candidates must possess
1. Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or the equivalent.

Desirable

1. Development involving XML based technologies
And
2. Knowledge of application development and UML design
And
3. Good Java skills
And
4. Distributed development using Sockets, CORBA or RMI
